Johnson and Johnson a Family Company

Earlier this semester I attended a Johnson and Johnson panel in order to learn about the Co-Op opportunity. The meeting consisted of three Villanova students, along with a handful of employees from J&J, to express their opinions on the program. A few of the representatives talked about why one would be lucky to be a part of a company like Johnson and Johnson, while others described their experience during the six-month duration of the program.

More specifically, one Villanova student discussed his experience while working in finance with Johnson and Johnson. He was instructed to teach his accounting job to workers in the Philippines despite being three weeks into the job. This challenge gives me something to look forward to if I decide to do the co-op program. Some of the assignments he was given after his task of instructing the workers in the Philippines are even more interesting. Things like managing different finances, allocating certain costs to different budgets, and the analysis of numerous budgets were all part of his new job description.

An interesting opportunity the J&J employees mentioned was the FLDP program. In this program, employees are placed into a two and a half year incubator to develop any employee into a senior analyst. Employees start out as associates and quickly obtain the skills to transform into an efficient senior analyst. This kind of program is very rare and unique because in other companies it normally takes longer to be given a high ranked position. This program solidifies Johnson and Johnson as a company everyone should have their eyes on during their time at Villanova.

J&J’s panel was very helpful in my understanding of how the co-op program works. I advice all of you to attend this panel because this event gives insight to how a co-op generally works as well as opportunities with Johnson and Johnson. From the meeting, I was able to identify that working with Johnson and Johnson would be an amazing opportunity. Similar to Villanova, J&J have a huge sense of community and always helps when someone is in need. Personally, I am from a struggling community surrounded by poverty so, it is relieving to see Johnson and Johnson help people that faced the same obstacles I was able to overcome. I advice others who come from a struggling community to seek employment at a company like Johnson and Johnson because of this company’s will to help people in need.

Overall, Johnson & Johnson’s co-op panel was worth attending and I encourage all of you to go to other company panels. At a company’s panel, you will gain information on that company along with different opportunities the company offers. Additionally, I encourage each of you to discover what matters to you and then find a company that has a mission statement that resonates with your values.

I typically make blogs about the business professional development events I attend, in hopes of igniting others to attend as well. During my time in the business school at Villanova I would like to encourage other business students and people in business generally, the types of events they should attend.
